I am writing with an inquiry. I have a friend who for 2 years has lived with an unidentified illness. His symptoms are the following:
Dizziness, disorientation accompanied by buzzing and humming in ear and neck area, "gastritis" and vomiting of almost anything eaten.
The dizziness and disorientation symptoms are to the degree in which he no longer works and drives and at many times can't walk because they come in "attack mode" (he'll be doing fine and it comes out of the blues)
He has been to many doctors and none have found what his illness is. He's had a lot of medication prescribed and has spent his savings in trying to find a cure. Please help with advice and opinions if you can. He is open to any solution Thank You.
Sincerely,

These are always tough ones, because I can only get limited historical information.  The dizziness and buzzing implies a nerve problem going to the ear(s).  This can be evaluated by an MRI with gandolinium contrast.  If that is normal, then the problem is an inner ear disorder that tends to come and go (Meneire's Disease) and is treated with various medications- Antivert, Sometimes sedatives like Valium, sometimes Diuretics like hydrochlorothiazide.

The recurrent vomiting may or may not be related.  Inner ear problems can cause nausea and vomiting, but would recommend a gastro-intestinal workup for that.  Is he losing weight?  If so, it implies the problem is worse, than if the weight stays stable.

Hope this helps....

THANK YOU SO SO MUCH for your advice. He actually is losing weight because he doesnt hold anything. What do you think it might be or what direction would you advice he take? Please help him. Thank You. Sincerely,

Answer
Well, two years of symtoms and it hasn't declared itself.  This would tend to lower the possibility of this being cancer with the symptoms persisting this long.  I would start with a family doctor and then possibly a neurologist to evaluate the head symptoms and you may need a gastroenterologist to help with the vomiting symptoms.

Good luck...
