Unexplained Unsteadiness in Young Adult: Seeking Answers

Question
My 23 yr old son has MR, doesn't speak, and walks  independently until recently.  His Neurologist, two ENT specialists, Optometrist, Cardiologist, and Pediatrician have no idea why he is so unsteady and needs to hold on when walking.  It is awful to see how scared he gets in an open space, when seated he looks fine. There are times out of every day that he is fine and there is no sign when these episodes are going to start. He is on medication for seizures, cholesterol, triglicerides and blood pressure.

Please let me know what you think could be going on and where we should take him to be checked.  We are willing to go anywhere that could help him.

Answer
gosh.... this question is well beyond what I could possibly do... he has multiple specialists involved and it would be pretty unrealistic to think I can come up with something "better."   I would ask the neurologist that question  or his peds... this may be psychological as well as physical... good luck with it
