Salivation and Acid Reflux: A Doctor's Explanation

Hi Dr Borucki,

Is increased production of saliva a usual sysmptom of acid reflux? I suffer from reflux from time to time, but it is usually kept under control by omeprazole but despite taking this medication, I have recently been experiencing greater salivation than usual and I wonder this might be a manifestation of a reflux problem. Grateful for your advice

it could be a symptom if acid is coming up and irritating the esophagus which can cause stimulation of the saliva.....   take the Prilosec on an empty stomach (omeprazole).... that is part of the treatment, other treatment includes not eating late (not within 3 hrs of bedtime) and avoiding cigs/alcohol.   Hope this helps.
