QuestionI'm 22 and very overweight. I started dieting, because I am trying to get healthier. But I am feeling sick. I always started feeling a little ill when eating most meats, but now, with the low carb/high protien diet I am really sick; nausous, exhausted, headachy. I was wondering if it's all psycological, or if it could be that I am carb dependant, or if the meats could actually be making me sick? What do you think?
AnswerI think you've answered your own question: low carb diets are not for you. Frankly, any "diet" is doomed for failure. You need to change how much and what you eat, and then increase your activity level. While that may sound simplistic, it's what will work in the long run. The low carb thing is fine, if you'll be doing it for the rest of your life, but you're much better off eating moderately "normal" foods.
I'm a firm believer in calorie counting. You can download a free calorie diary at my website (www.smartcalorie.com). I would stick with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, lean protein (chicken, fish, soy, lean beef), and modest amounts of complex carbs. The real important part is to start an exercise program. You won't lose weight effectively without increasing your activity.
Hope that helps.
