Question
my daughter is 12 and weighs 85 pounds. she lives in another state with her father and doesn't trust him. i recently got an e-mail from her saying she wants ot be anorexic or bulimic because she feels she is too fat. her sister who also lives up north says she wants to lose 35 pounds in 1 month. she is not very tall and her sister is tall and thin. i know this is a very serious disesase and am very worried and do not know where to start or how to handle this she asked me not to tell anyone and i know that if i went to her father it would make it worse. what do

Answer
You're correct, it is a very serious and important statement.  The best place to start would be with both of your daughters' pediatricians.  I would also discuss this further, of course, with your daughters.  Without knowing the family arrangement and distance away, it's hard to suggest anything further.

It is worth a call to the pediatrician Monday, for a plan of action, as well as an appointment.
