Understanding Elevated ALT Levels After Gallbladder Removal: What Does It Mean?
QuestionI am a 29 year old female. Last year I had my gall bladder removed. I had some follow-up blood work done a few days ago. All my bloodwork is fine. My cholesterol even went down from 270 to 159 since my last bloodwork. The only thing is my alt is 80. The other liver tests were fine. My dr. doesn't seem concerned. He just said we'll check it in 4 months. Do I have reason to be concerned? Could it be something minor? I really don't want to be stressed out for the next 4 months.
Answerdear beth:
i would side with your doctor - an alt of 80 is trivial and worth a work-up only once it is chronic, i.e. after 6 months. if you are worried, ask your doctor to check it again in one month - chances are, it will then be normal already.
