Paroneal Tendon Pain: Causes, Treatment & Relief

Question
dOCTOR:
I have an issue with what i think is called the paroneal tendons on the side of my leg, i drive quite a bit, and this aggrivates it on my right leg.  I have had this problem for quite a while,  the only thing that helps is a calf sleeve.  Is there any mode of treatment that is helpful for this?

I also wear orthotics made by a podiatrist, i walk on the outsides of my feet and have done so since i can remember, this may or may not be contributing but regardess of the orthotics even with them i am still wearing out my shoes in the same pattern as i did even before i had orthotics, it is like i am overpowering them, which leads me to think why even have them?  Since my feet bones ache from wearing them.  Would you agree that if after gait training and orthoitics and still wearing out shoes that the orthotics for me is probably just wasting money?

Answer
There are a couple other tricks.... some non-drug tricks are to ice it down at night- ice cubes in a baggy, on for 20 minutes, off for 2 hrs.  Also, that anti-inflammatories, like Alleve 2 pills twice a day.  There are other tricks, like topical Zostrix creme 4 times per day, or a Lidoderm patch put on daily.  Talk to your doc about it.... and yes, I agree w/ your last statement.
