Understanding Muscle Fatigue and Metabolism: A Personal History

Question
Good Day

I am a 52 year old male. I have a question about muscular fatique and possibly metabolism (if this is the correct word).

When I was very young, 7-8, I would do various movements, such as running where I would run until my muscles demanded that I stop and rest. The time after I started running, and the time I stopped, was very long.

And when I stopped to rest, I would recover; muscle pain, breathing, etc. within a few minutes. In fact, I was back to 100% running again for several more minutes. I simply could not "wear out," no matter how far I walked, how much I climbed, how much I ran.

As I got older, the ability to run gradually slowed down, to where I no longer ran anywhere. I walked ok, but not as far as I could when I was younger. And the recovery time took a lot longer.

At age 35, I took up weightlifting. To "fight" this undesirable effect of muscle strength loss and inability to walk very far.

At age 50, I included aerobics. I now climb stairs, 5 flights, 5 times a day. By the 5th floor, my legs are very sore. And my pulse is 120. But within 5 minutes, I am back to no pain. And my pulse is 85. But I do have to wait a couple of hours to fully recover.

When I was a child, I could have RUN up the stairs, 6-7, or more flights of stairs. Waited 5 minutes, and everything would be back to resting state.

Which means, as I get older, everything is gradually slowing down. The exercising is apparently help to greatly SLOW this "slowing down."

But I was wondering if you could tell me; exactly what is slowing down, and what is causing everything to slow down? And how does exercising help to 'slow' the "slowing down.?"

Even food is digested better with aerobics. Again, I want to know what is happening in this slow vs fast situation in my body before, and now.

I fear that the slowing down of my body will eventually prevent me from doing any kind of physical movement. That is why I exercise 6 days a week. Weights on Sunday...

Detailed replies are welcome! I wish to learn as much as I can on this situation. I look forward to hearing from you.

I only speak english.Sorry. References are not necessary. Your opinions and ideas are welcome. If you can use the proper terminology for what I am describing, even better. No religious preferences.

You may have a muscle enzyme disorder and neet to see a neurologits.

And how does exercising help to 'slow' the "slowing down.?"  It tends to build up your tolerance but with age you will lose that too/

Yes, you need a metabolic and neuro work up.
