QuestionHello.
I was diagnosed with Eustachian Tube Syndrome. I have had
disturbing symptoms such as fullness and pressure in my left
ear for 2 days when I finally sought help from my doctor and this
is what he diagnosed me with. At the time of my visit, I was
experiencing NO other symptoms other than the ones
mentioned above. When I got home however, I experienced
severe vertigo, loss of balance, spacey sensations and nausea.
Can these symptoms accompany ETS? Also, what exactly causes
this problem? I know that the tube does not close properly and
therefore causes this discomfort, but what can trigger the
Eustachian tube to remain open? Can a plane ride cause this?
And if so, can there be a delay in the Eustachian Tube response?
In other words, can someone ride in a plane and 2 days later
experience discomfort? (This is the case with me).
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Tina
AnswerYes, these symptoms can be consistent with a blocked E.T. And, airplane rides can worsen it. The E.T. empties fluid that is secreted in the inner ear, if blocked, pressure can build, and the balance organ is there and can cause the dizziness. Things that help---decongestants-sudafed, Afrin nasal spray, then possibly oral steroid sprays, antibiotics are questionable, but we usually use them. So, overall, the answer is yes, your symptoms are consistent with this.
Hope this helps...
