Understanding H. Pyloric Bacteria: Symptoms, Transmission & Treatment

Question
We are both 76 yrs. My husband recently had H. Pyloric bacteria.
it got to the stage of indigestion and infrequent vomiting (twice) before it was taken care of. I recently see kissing a person transfers it to them, (that being very infrequent as well)
Do I have it now with no symptoms??

Answer
You very well could have it.  This is a weird "infestation" because often people have it with no symptoms and there is no need for treatment.  It becomes complicated because re-infection is common and the treatment courses work, at best, about 75% of the time.   Sometimes we have to deal with reoccurrence and just treat symptoms with the acid blockers like Prilosec.  If you have no symptoms of reflux or pain in your upper abdomen, you do not require treatment.

As I said, complicated issue because it is not definitely cause and effect... having HP and heartburn and getting rid of the HP often doesn't change the heartburn.  There is an association between ulcers and HP but some people still get ulcers that are HP negative.

I hope I have helped and not confused you more......
