QuestionFor several years now I have been plagued with muscle spasms, mostly in the neck and lower back areas. I have gone to a chiropractor, message therapist and a physiotherapist. For the past two years, I have followed a daily set of stretching exercises (suggested by a physiotherapist) in order to rid myself of constant tightening muscles. I have also improved my diet, eating less starches and carbohydrates. I find , however , that I have increased my salt intake and now my muscle stiffeness, which had somewhat improved, has returned. The only other exercise that I had added to my regime are sit-ups.
The odd thing about my situation is that at times I feel great but suddenly and often I feel as if my entire muscle system has tightened up on me and it becomes very painful simply to walk.
I would appreciate any suggestion you can offer me that might improve this frustrating condition of mine.

AnswerYes, you appear to have a magnesium oxide deficiency and possibly a calcium deficiency disorder which you may need to speak to your doctor about.
To learn more go to www.nih.gov and search for muscle spasm, magnesium and calcium. see:http://search2.google.cit.nih.gov/search?site=NIH_Master&client=NIH_frontend&proxystylesheet=NIH_frontend&output=xml_no_dtd&filter=0&getfields=*&q=muscle+spasms
Since this can be serious you should seek advice from a physician who can counsel you.
