dear doctor,
I am a sixty one yr old woman, 5'8.5" tall, 193 lb. Up until I turned 61 I was fine. But now it hurts my knees to go down a flight of steps. Even just a couple of steps.
Going up steps isn't comfortable either. It seems like they're worse when I go for a walk.
We have a hot tub set at 101; would that help?
Should I rub something into them? I'm worried I'll need knee replacement surgery. They do Not hurt when I get up in the morning. I have a feeling it's partly caused by my habit of propping my feet up on my desk which is higher than my chair? And I sit here for hours a day. But I've done this for several years. Thanks, susan

It may feel good but I would be careful since it sounds like your magnesium oxide is low.
Should I rub something into them?
Not really, but it might falsely feel better.
I have a feeling it's partly caused by my habit of propping my feet up on my desk which is higher than my chair? Yes, that can hyperextend your knees so stop that.
What medicines or vitamins etc do you take?
How many bowel movements daily do you have?
Do you have a slight redness to your chin?
gee; I'm surprised you are so into complimentary medicine. I've been into it for years. Just started Indian herbs.
BM's. Um, 2 or 3? I have what I'd call irritable bowel without any pains. A nervous disorder type of thing. Chin redness. No. I take:
bacopa extract, ashwagandha, turmeric, coq10, b complex, green tea extract capsules, folic acid and 100mg Picamilon. I bought cal/mag but I Hate big pills. I like capsules. Andrew Lessman sells calcium in capsules; maybe I should look into those? I have a huge bottle of EsterC I've rarely taken. 1/4mg xanax at bedtime, 20 yrs.THANK YOU SO MUCH! Susan
AnswerYou may need to put the herbs in a box for a while and take the following if OK with your doctor:
omega 3 3000mg morning and dinner
magnesium oxide 500mg morning and dinner
calcium carbonate 600mg with Vit D morning and dinner
high potency B Complex(B-50) morning and dinner
Centrum silver generic 1/2 morning and dinner
vitamin C 1000mg morning and dinner
In my patients your symptoms would be gone in 2-3 weeks at the most but check with your doctor to be sure it would be OK for you.
We have found that the buy one get one free products in CVS or Walgreen or Osco have had superior results to the proprietary products you mention.
