Heel Wound Healing: Tips for Faster Recovery After Stitches

Question
I've got a deep cut on my heel. It was cut because I stepped on a lid to a can of fruit. I went to the ER and got stitches on the 18th of Aug and I got them removed on Aug 23rd. But it seems the skin is still spread apart and it doesn't seem to be healing or the skin doesn't seem to be growing back together I also can't put any pressure on it because it's too painfull. Do you have any tips on speeding up the process of the skin rejoining at the cut healing as fast as possible. I've got a camping trip coming up on the 6th. I've put a picture online to assist you further.

Answer
Your dates list August 18-23.... I assume you mean July, or did this happen a year ago?  Anyways, the skin in that area is different than the skin on your forearm... it is much thicker and it will appear to be splitting, but at the base of the split, it should be closed.  Then, the edges will dry and slowly come off and it will heal fine.  It doesn't look infected.  The stitches came out a little early, but it still should heal.  That area is also very tender.  I assume that the ER doctor checked carefully to make sure there was no underlying tendon/ligament damage... if there isn't it will heal OK.... don't know if you will be 100% in 4 more days, but it should be OK.

Hope this helps...
