Cervical Ectropion & Erosion: Understanding the Difference & Biopsy Results

i am 27.  my gyno. told me i have a cervical ectropion.  i have read that these and cervical erosion are not the same and the erosion can cause cancer.  is this true?  how does my doctor know i have an ectropion and not an erosion?  are there distinct differences?  she took a biopsy of it at my request and she said it showed some inflammation but nothing else.  is this normal for an ectropion to show up as inflammation on a biopsy?
