Hi. I have a question. What is it in oatmeal that is supposed to lower cholesterol? Would the whole grain in shredded wheat do the same thing? Thanks!
Answer -
It is the ratio of soluble fiber to the nonsoluble fiber.
No wheat does not do this but acutally raises the cholesterol by conversion to lipids.

Answer
Yes, since a serving of hot oatmeal(any type) prevents afternoon hunger and evening snacking as well as lowers cholesterol. If one adds 1/4 tsp of cinnamon to that oatmeal it doubles the cholesterol reduction, hunger suppression, helps with weight loss, and wards of early diabetes. Of course, check with your personal doctor to be sure this works for you.
