Eye Irritation from Soap: Risks & Potential Complications

Question
Can getting heavily fragranced body soap in your eye, then
rinsing well..Can further eye complications still occur? I was
informed that it could cause a corneal abrasion, can these cause
eye deformities? I heard  that they can offset your eyes and give
them an uneven appearance, is that so? And I know that in the
soaps are "eye irritants" but what exactly causes the severe pain
I experienced when the pure liquid soap flew into my eye?
Thank you very much

Answer
Hi Nick,
Hi Nick. Rest reasurred that ALL the things that you HEARD are false. The only complication of getting ANY soap product in your eye is the discomfort as a result of the chemicals that are irritants to the corneal surface. The cornea is very sensitive. It's supposed to be that way so one can protect ones eyes from harm. That's the body's way of protecting itself. If you notice, it even hurts to get tap water in your eye. Severe alkalai or acid burns can cause corneal damage, but soaps can not.
