QuestionI am wondering what specific symptoms are associated with West Nile. My husband is displaying flu like symptoms, and has a very sore throat. We were camping all weekend and he thinks he may have contracted the disease. I think he has something else. We were with friends, one friend has tonsilitus and I am wondering if that is contagious.
Answerthe symptoms of all the viral illnesses are vague, making it hard to pinpoint unless there are specific rashes; typical symptoms are fever, muscle aches, and a red rash and swollen lymph nodes; there are also variable symptoms like headache, eye pain, nausea, vomiting, sore throat, joint aches. It can be diagnosed by some specific antibody testing, but there isn't a treatment anyways, so it goes away on it's own, unless someone is very sickly or old. It is not very contagious at all, and pretty much has to be passed on by something like mosquito bites, so you don't have to worry about catching it. flu symptoms and sore throat have so many causes... need to look for strep throat or mono long before you worry about west nile.....
