at L5-S1, there is a broad- based disc osteophyte complex causing mild narrowing of the left lateral recess, moderate left neural foraminal stenosis and mild right neural foraminal stenosis.please explain these results.
Is this a emergency
Answer -
the broad based osteophyte means there is growth of the bone across some of the ligaments between the bone... this is from old injury, longstanding arthritis, so it has been there a long time. This finding can be found in people with little to no pain, or some people with a lot of pain. So, you have to correlate these findings with the symptoms you are having... if there is a lot of pain, then treatment may help, which may be steroid shots in the area (epidurals) or ultimately, surgery, if those and medications don't help with pain. But no, it is not an emergency... it is probably something that has been there for a long time.
theres disc height loss.theres mild end plate changes.theres broad-based asymmetric disc osteophyte complex most prominet in the left paracentral and left foraminal location.theres mild narrowing of the left lateral recess and moderate left neural foraminal stenosis.theres mild right neural forminal stenosis.i know that i have been dealing with this pain for a long... time.if i were to have surgery what would be recommende?could this potentcially make me paralized? also in 12\04 i had ruptured cerebral aneurysm 2 gdc coils and doing great thank GOD!on med for high blood pressure, heart, and tyenol for pain.
AnswerThe clinical findings on the study are not an emergency.... there is nothing there that hasn't been there for a while.... you may ultimately need something to help with symptoms, but you don't have to run off to the emer room.... you have time to work on it with your neurosurgeon or pain management doctor.
