Understanding and Addressing Neck Pain & Muscle Knots

Question
Hi there, I've read a few of the questions and answers and i hope i can direct this question correct. I work at a desk, mostly computer work and on phone. I do try make an effort to sit upright all the time, and i know stress can play a huge part in knots. I also exercise regularly and do take supplements, such as NOS(nitric oxide to increase oxygen in blood flow, muscle gain etc - i don't know if this contributes to knots..?). But i have developed some kind of knot at the back of my neck, to the side of the spine - so i know its not a slip disc. It came out of no where, one day when i was doing push-ups, as a throbbing pain causing a serious head ache at same time(@ heart rate level). never had a knot there before. I have taken anti-inflams, muscle relaxants, arnica oil (doc). Is there anything else i can do: stretching, rubbing? no pain now, I'm just worried that the throbbing pain will come back again one random day in the gym where ill have to stop again. i can still feel the knot.
Your help would be much appreciated!

Answer
Hi Jon,

Its hard to say what's going on, you could even have a compressed nerve. Since you do work at a desk and a comp/ phone you do have to be very careful. All I can really say is to keep stretching, drinks lots of water, watch your posture and take it easy at the gym. If the pain comes back I urge you to see your doctor. A massage could help, but if the nerve is compressed it is difficult to say if it is being compressed by a muscle of bone. I hope this helps.
