Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding & Severe Cramps: Understanding Your Options
QuestionI am a 40 year old woman. I have been having menstrual problems for quite some time - I have been diagnosed by my gynocologist with dysfunctional uterine bleeding and I have severe, debilitating cramping during menses and mid-cycle. Cancers have been ruled out with medical tests. I have had a tubal ligation, so I am not concerned with fertility. I had an ovary removed this past year (complex cyst). My doctor put me on Yasmin about 2 months ago to see if it helps - it hasn't. The only positive thing is that I have lost weight on it (about 7 lbs in a month and a half). I still have some spotting and 1 week before my last period, I had cramps that literally had me bedridden (I also had night sweats). Since taking the pill, I have been nauseous, had trouble sleeping, skin breakouts. I go back to my doctor in November for further evaluation. My real question is: my doctor seems reluctant to perform a hysterectomy because he says I will become "immediately menopausal" at age 40. Will this be worse than what I'm already experiencing? I want to have the surgery, but it is a big decision. What do you think?
AnswerYou are correct. It is unlikely that you will become menopausal at 40 since my patients who avoid plant oil omega-6 do well into their 60s. You may want to look up an integrative medicine doctor near you. Seach for the ABHM on the web for a doctor near you.
