Hypokalemia and Falls: Understanding Low Potassium's Impact

Question
a friend of mine recently lost bodily functions just for a few seconds and fell. She was fully  aware but could not raise an arm to prevent fall. During hospital stay they gave her 1000mg potassium twice a day. Could low potassium cause the fall?

Answer
Hi Helga and thanks for writing,

Hypokalemia (Low Potassium) can cause Hypotension (Low Blood Pressure) amoung other things which could cause your friend to pass out. Of course I am not involved in her medical care so this is only a theoretical guess.

I hope this helps and I hope your friend is better soon.
