Medical Assistance for Uninsured Patient with TIA and Diabetes

Question
I don't have medical insurance because my boss pays me cash and does not have medical insurance.  I have had 3 TIA's in 2001, 2003, and I just had another one on April 6, 2007.  I am a diabetic and I need to see a Neurologist and Cardiologist and I don't have the money.  Is there someone that can help me in seeing these doctors.  I was a victim of Katrina and after Hurricane Katrina they found out that I was a diabetic.  Please let me know where I can get help.  I checked with Medicaid and they told me that I had to be pregnant or over 65 years old.  I am only 41 years old but I have been having problems.  Please assist me in this matter. My number is 228-323-3168.

Answer
Dear Solita,

First of all, my prayers to you.  this must be very difficult.

It would help if I knew what state you were in.  Are you still in Louisiana?

I have found some websites to help you.

http://ask.hrsa.gov/pc/
Bureau of Primary Help is there for those who have no insurance and no money

All drug companies have patient assistance programs to get you medications in three month increments for free.

NeedyMeds.com

You can contact your local United Way.   Many communities have links tied in on the phone system if you dial 211.

www.healthcheckusa.com

If you have no luck with these, please don't hesitate to contact me.  I will try and research further.  Also, if you have a physician, please ask them if they know of any local resources.  There is an insurance called CareNet available in some areas that gives insurance coverage to those people who need insurance but have little to no money.

Best wishes to you, Solita.
