Post-Depo Cycle Irregularities: What to Expect After Stopping Depo-Provera

Question
I was on Depo for about 6 months just recently stopped receiving it about 2 months ago. When I should have gotten my other injection of my Depo I started taking Yaz birth control pills. I have gotten a period after one month off of the Depo but my doctor told me I probably wouldn't get a period until about 6-12 months after stopping the Depo. Is one month off the Depo and getting a period normal? Also when I got my period, sometimes the blood would be very dark and I would get some light to dark brown discahrge, should I be worried?

And I am on my second pack of Yaz in the fourth week, on the second week of my second month of Yaz, I forgot two random pills in the second week, the two pills were not in a row, one was missed on a Monday and the other missed on a Wednesday. Me and my boyfriend had unprotected sex a couple days later, he didn't ejaculate in me but could maybe a little bit of pre-*** get me pregnant since I missed those two pills in the second week ??? And should I be using protection until I'm finished with this pack...or Should I have used protection the 7 days after I missed those pills?

Answer
Hi Kayla,

Thanks for your question. The scenario you are describing could possible bring pregnancy but my personal opinion is that the chances would be low. Yes, I would use protection but remember, in my opinion, "protection" is not 100% pregnancy free. It's too late to worry about if you should have used protection at this point. I would just recommend seeing if you miss your next period or develop pregnancy symptoms.

Personally, I don't recommend any kind of hormonal birth control. For what reason did you go off of depo? Just wondering. I believe depo and birth control pills have side effects and risks and I advise in Natural Family planning if possible. Please email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com and we can talk more.
