QuestionMy 11 year old son has been peeing frequently. My husband and I have noticed it the past few weeks, but thought he just wanted to visit bathrooms in the places we were at. I am now on vacation in Colorado away from my doctors for two weeks and I am getting concerned. In the morning his pee is yellowish (normal) but yesterday during the later part of the day it was clear. At one point I counted him going 4 times in one hour. This morning he complained of stomach pain, but recently said it was better. He is 11 years old, extremely active and is on the edge of starting puberty ( but hasn't yet, at least I haven't noticed any signs). Any advice would be appreciated until I can get home to his regular doctor.
Also- he says he has no pain when he pees.
AnswerIn general, I am not alarmed by this but.....
he should have a urinalysis to look for sugar or infection in the urine. There is also a fairly rare condition diabetes insipidus where hormonally, he is dumping too much water into the urine. You can get a hint of it from the urinalysis but to look for it, blood tests are necessary. But again, that is pretty rare.
