Child's Leg Pain: Advice for Parents - Is a Doctor Visit Needed?

Hi! my 5 year old daughter has been awake screaming all night because of pain ,like cramp, in her right leg above the knee. I'm not sure wether she needs to go to the doctor . I have given her a warm bath which seemed to help. It is not hurting her this morning, just seems bruised as she says it hurts to put weight on. She went swimming yesterday and the water was not that warm although it was a heated pool. what do you think ? Thankyou

So what you have said is pain in the thigh without any known injury or cause.  The only thing that is pretty rare, is possibly a bone infection... I would have her checked by her doctor and consider blood cultures at least once, especially if there is any elevation of temp, and a CBC.   I assume the color and function of the leg is otherwise normal.    

This will probably go away without treatment but I would have it looked at.
