QuestionPain management initially prescribed gabapentin (2400mg/day) baclofen (10mg/3 per day) and vicodin (5mg/500mg; one or two every six hours) for facial pain. Now they want to slowly get me off of vicodin and has prescribed me ibuprofen (800mg/1 every 8 hrs) sertraline (50mg/1 per day) and pantoprazole (40mg/1 per day); and I continue taking the baclofen and gabapentin at same dosage.
I was wondering are these medications safe to take together; especially regarding the vicodin and ibuprofen? Thank you for your time.
AnswerDear Lisa,
I am so sorry you have been so uncomfortable. You didn't say what the problem is, but I am guessing it is Bell's palsy?
I cannot find any documentation telling me that the medications cannot be taken together as prescribed. Neurontin, Zoloft and Vicodin certainly can be sedating, so I would exercise caution when taking these medications.
Vicodin and ibuprofen certainly can be taken together. In fact, there is a medication called Vicoprofen, that is a combination of the two. I am guessing they started you on te pantoprazole to protect your stomach from the ibuprofen and vicodin.
I hope this was of help to you. If I did not answer this question appropriately, please don't hesitate to let me know.
My best wishes to you,
Andrea
