Post-Abdominal Pain & Digestive Concerns: Seeking Diagnosis

Question
I wanted to reply to your email so I resubmitted another question.  Last night after the pain subsided I did have to go to the bathroom twice but it definately was not Diareha, just soft and darker than usual.  My stomach today is making all sorts of noises and I am a litle sore (like I did sit ups to my lower region) which tends me to believe that this is not a hernia thing.  What is throwing me off is the pain on my lower right side.  Why does it seem to gravititate there after a few hours and the morning after?  My doc is suggesting a surgeon for the hernia without even doing a CAT scan or anything.  I want to rule everything out to avoid surgery before I go that route.  I remember what I ate the past 2 times and both are foods I have eaten in the past.  Any follow up ideas or advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Answer
when the colon stretches, it sends pain signals... as with any hollow organ (heart, stomach, intestine and others) the pain is "referred" meaning it is vague and in one general area.... the right side of the colon is around the belly button, the left side, below the belly, sometimes to the right or left.  I don't know if you have a hernia or not, but a second opinion from the surgeon is reasonable... they are not going to operate unless they physically know there is a hernia there.  But your symptoms are from the colon most likely, and I think it may be you reacting badly to some type of food.
