Sudden Heart Attack at 35: Possible Causes & Risk Factors

Question
Robert
A close co-worker recently succumbed to a massive heart attack while taking a morning shower.
He was 35, non smoker and drinker, and was quite overweight.
This has got a lot of us thinking, as several of us are older than 35 and are also overweight. Some are smokers.
As a requirement of our employment we are required to take and pass a yearly physical. There was no indication of heart problems on any of our tests.
What do you think caused my friends heart attack? Was it the heat, early morning hour and being overweight? I sometimes get light headed in the hot tub.
A couple of us are determined to lose weight, myself included, but it is so hard as you get older. I have quit smoking however and I jog daily. Sadly however, most are of the opinion that when your time is up there is nothing you can do.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Answer
People get heart attacks because their arteries clog with cholesterol deposits....

Risk factors include cholesterol, hypertension, smoking, diabetes and family history.   There are other factors that we don't understand yet.

If you have any concern, a stress test is a good test to determine whether there could be a blockage.  A routine physical with an EKG is not good enough.

Get the stress test and make those good lifestyle changes you are talking about!
