ACE Inhibitors vs. Calcium Channel Blockers for Heart Attack Prevention: Expert Insights
QuestionDo you have a preference between ACE Inhibitors and Calcium Channel Blockers for people who are trying to avoid a second heart attack? Thank you for sharing your expertise.
Answergood question .... very debateable... the companies are doing studies and there are benefits to both for post heart attack prevention... ace inhibitors, especially Altace, probably all, are great if there has been some heart damage and the heart doesn't pump as well as it used to. Also, Beta Blockers have a great role in post heart attacks, Toprol XL; Norvasc, one of the calcium ch blockers is also beneficial. The key probably is knowing the ejection fraction and then figuring out which will control the BP without undue side effects. It is a complicated issue, though.
