Persistent Cough After Rash and Fever: Possible Causes & Concerns

I had a rash last week, as did my 8 year old son.  He had a fever first, I did afterwards.  I woke up one night at the beginning with a rattley cough but now that the rash is subsiding, I wake myself up every night with a crackly cough.  I have it in the daytime some also.  They said his Might be chickenpox, but didn't think my rash looked like that.  Any ideas?

rash and fever and cough suggest a viral illness... your eight year old should be protected against all the serious ones and should have gotten the chicken pox immunization.  These usually resolve on their own but since it is gone on this long it is worth having a doctor visit.
