Fever and Male Fertility: Impact on Sperm Count & Conception

Question
hii Elayne.......am 23 years old female ttc...my partner had a small fever which lasted for three four days last month.it was a normal fever due to cold.he took parasatmol and he was ok..i heard that fever can affect sperm count and that it takes 2-3 months for the next set of sperm to get ready.is this true?does it mean that only after 2-3 months we wil be able to conceive?

Answer
A normal, low-grade fever would only have a minimal effect on sperm count.  Especially if your partner was taking medication that brought the fever down, this would have minimized the effect.  Even a high-grade fever only reduces sperm count and quality by about a third.  While the recovery time you stated is correct, you are still likely to be able to get pregnant even if your partner's sperm count is somewhat reduced temporarily.
