Post-Cardiac Catheterization Calf Pain: Seeking Expert Advice
QuestionDr. Borucki,
I have a question:
After a heart catherization I had about a month and a month ago, I have been wakened from a deep sleep with very bad stabbing pains in my left calf. This has happened at least on three occations (of the pain waking me up). The pain is noticble in the day time, but not like when it wakes me up at night. I am a sound sleeper, and for that sharp pain to wake me up, something is not right. In reading the literature given to me before my cath procedure, I remember reading about potential clotting. What is the chance of having a clot from the cath procedure, that could locate itself in a calf? I have never had sharp stabbing pain like this before my calf. Today at work while sitting down at my desk I became very dizzy and felt slight numbness in my face. I had to get someone to drive me home. I am not as dizzy now, but still concerned. Thanks so much. Ronnie
AnswerThis far out, it would be unusual to have a clot complication of a heart catheterization. I think the chance is really low that it is from the cath. I am not sure how to tie all of this together (the dizziness and numbness) Have the calf looked at though.... this may be muscular or could be a venous clot or many other things....
I hope this helps....
