QuestionWe recently moved and upon cleaning out a corner that had house some stacks of stuffed animals we found what appeared to be mouse droppings. This was a month ago. We cleaned up the droppings and started washing everything. Unfortunately we had a small stack of animals and a glider left to clean.
Today I saw one of my daughter's slippers on top of the stack and the glider. I asked her and she had put it there this weekend. I immediately start researching things on google and now have scared myself silly.
I read about 2 viruses LCMV and Hantavirus and a score of other diseases.
My question is could those viruses still be on those animals (she apparently went through them) we're unsure of when the mouse was here b/c we haven't caught anything in the traps - we saw them a month ago.
How long would those viruses live on fabric -stuffed animals etc?
What about any bacteria?
What should we do? Should we take her to the ped? Since we're new we haven't gotten one established yet but there is a children's hospital here.
I have a 2 year old as well and Im 36 weeks pregnant.
AnswerHave you ever heard of a case of LCMV or Hanta in your state? One of the problems with the net is that you don't know what to believe and what not to believe. Children don't drop dead like flies and you obviously are a lot cleaner than most.... they are gonna be OK. If you see dropping, clean them up and get the exterminator to temporarily solve the problem.... but they will be OK. And you, at 36 weeks are way past any potential "deformity" stage, so worse case with you is that you start throwing up.... but I would bet that everyone is going to be disease free.
