Post-Concussion Syndrome: Understanding Symptoms & Recovery

Question
Thank you for your time, Dr. Borucki.

I am a 43 year old man who was involved in a medium speed (55 mph) t-bone collision which gave me a "substantial" whiplash concussion.  Though there was no visual sign of damage, I was warned and indeed found the symptoms would be noticeable and possibly last for months.  The symptoms range from now needing reading glasses to read (didn't before), mental fatigue during tense situations and/or multi-tasking and even getting a thick tongue when when being emphatic during discussions...Almost like I've had a few drinks.

It's been a few months now, and though there has been some improvement, I'm frustrated to say the conditions persist.  Can you give me an idea of how big this time window is before normalcy and any way I can speed the process up?

I thank you again for your review and look forward to the feedback.

Answer
that sounds more like a concussion as opposed to just whiplash, unless you are still on any narcotic pain medicine or muscle relaxers.... those can cause symptoms like that.  I don't know if there is a way to speed up resolution....a concussion is some sheering of neurons that slowly repairs..... were you checked?  Hopefully there was no additional injury like any bleeding in the brain, etc...... since it has been a few months, it is worth seeing your doctor for this and having some additional testing.
