Mold Exposure During Pregnancy: Risks and What to Do

Question
Hi! I am almost 13 weeks pregnant. The first day of my last period was 11/13. I was taking a shower this morning and noticed that there was a lot of dark mold under the top railing of the shower. It looks like it has been there for a long time because there was quite a lot there. I take a shower every day, is this bad for my baby? I will clean it right away because that is very unclean, but can it have caused any problems so far? Thank you for your time!

Answer
It is unlikely that any mold that you were exposed to would have caused any harm to your pregnancy or to the fetus. If you aspirate mold into your lungs, you may have some difficulty in breating but it would not necessarily cause any harm to the baby. As long as you have cleaned the mold and keep using disinfectant and bathroom cleaners, you should have no problem. Don't worry.
