QuestionI'm not sure how easy this will be to answer, but I'll ask it anyway. Can target shooting outside, while wearing ear plugs, still damage hearing if the noise doesn't seem very loud? The plugs are rated at 31 NRR, and they seem to work good because the pistol doesn't seem very loud with them in, but I wanted to make sure anyway. I've heard of people wearing both plugs and muffs, but that seemed like overkill for being outside, and not indoors.

Answernoise damage is cumulative.... so one time target shooting won't damage permanently, but over time, repeated episodes will.... that is why we use hearing protection.... and once that happens, it really can't be undone, so it pays to protect the ears... target shooting, loud repetitive noises, rock concerts. The ear plugs or muffs work well..... some people wear both but realisitically, one or the other.
