Lupron Depot: Understanding the Medication & Patient Experiences

Question
I have just been prescribed Lupron and I was wondering if you know anything about this drug. Any personal experience with Luporn? I have read a lot of bad about it. I have spoken with my doctor and he will not even think about a hyst without trying this drug first. My fear lies in the fact that I have been pretty ill for almost 2 1/2 years. Nothing was found until recently(ulcerative colitis and endo). I have battled with lots of symptoms and 2 hospitilization. My dentist just infomred me my teeth problems are due to bone loss! I am also very sensitive to all meds. I smoke too. My fear is this, will this medication  make me feel better, or worse and cause more problems? If you have any insight on this I would like to hear from you. I want to make the right choice.
Thank You
Erika

Answer
Dear Erika,
Hi there. I am not totally familiar with Lupron...I am presently in an Endo Support group where the majority of the girls are prescribed lUpron. They all say it helps immensely. I have not heard too terribly bad things about the side effects.Considering most of the Endo effects are awful to begin with. I am told Lupron is closely related to Danocrine, which I was on several years ago. I too smoke and had no trouble with Danocrine. As a matter of fact, I  felt quite well, considering how terrible I always felt with my endo. I did not have a period for 8-9 months and per my gyno, my organs began to look much better. I hope you do not have an adverse reaction to Lupron, you may just feel great for a change! I also have been in and out of the hospital with one thing or the other...This group that I belong to has researched Endo to the extent that alot of ailments that a woman experiences are due to endo, like your teeth problems. May or may not be related, but there is a strong relationship between endo and your immune system. I am also told that allergies are also a direct relation to endo...If I were you,I'd go ahead with the Lupron and give it a try. I felt so terrible for so many years, any attempt with a medication was welcomed. There is also a great website for endo girls...Endo Research Center. They offer insignt and can give you alot of info on medications as well as High Risk Physicians in your area.
Best of luck to you! I hope you begin to feel well and feel that you have made the right choice! Happy Holidays. Martha
