QuestionI'm 27 and was just diagnosed with endo. and also told that one of my
tubes was blocked. The doctor suggested lupron depot for 6 months, I'm
at stage 2. She could not laser at all during surgery so I'm pretty much
stuck with the shots to eliminate the endo. Is there anything you can
recommend? My husband and I are wanting to start a family as soon as the
shots are complete. I'm very nervous about all the side effects and
gaining weight. Please advise on what might help improve the situation as
far as side effects and getting my body ready for pregnancy.
Thanks
Melanie
AnswerHi Melanie,
Usually I am not too wild about Lupron, but because of your present situation...I think its probably the best way to go. The Lupron does have funky side effects, but in order to get pregnant, you'll need to reduce the blockage in your tubes. Lupron should do it.
Lupron will help with endo but won't cure it. I am told that after a woman (with endo) has a baby, she will feel better for awhile, I guess it sort of "cleans out the plumbing", so to speak. But endo can return and usually does. But the severity levels of endo do vary.
I would say, that you're safe to do the Lupron for the 6 months and then do try to get pregnant. Years ago, I was given a similar treatment called Danocrine and it worked great for me for the time allotted, which was 9 months. My endo cleared up well for about a year, then it began to worsen, at which time, I started on the Birth Control pill. I remained on the BC pill for nearly 15 years, until it began to give me migraines.
Because endo is more or less a hormone driven disease, the use of some alternatives to treat it are really necessary.
I hope the Lupron does you well...and you feel great at the end of 6 months and can conceive without a hitch! Best of luck to you and your husband!
