I have been in pain for over 2 years now. It has gotton in the last 6 mon to a year that it has begun to effect my life every month sometimes 2 or 3 times a mon. I am having to take off work, I can not makelove with my husband and the doctor I am seeing here at the State Med. School hospital makes me feel stupid, will not listen to my pain or do anything about it, and she wants to give me that depo lupron shot insetad of doing the lapo. surgery. I can not take any birth control b/c of a blood clot I have had before. So I can not take hormones either. I do not think i should get the shot, but the dr. says that is all she can do

please help ,
scarred, and very confused

Answer
Dear Angela,   You MUST get with another doctor...  There are more options for you including FIRST to have the laproscopic surgery to remove as much of the endometriosis possible...  Often, as with the case of my daughter, this will help for a while, put the endo tissue will just grow back and that is when other measures must be taken....

My daughter's doctor wanted her to take the depo lupron, but she did the research and found that there were TOO MANY bad side effects of this drug AND that it is only recommended for a 6 months use...  After that, it must be stopped and then the problems start all over again....  My daughter has had 6 blood clots from 1997-20002, but her gynogologist told her that she should try the Depo-provera injections since she did not want the Lupron...  He said he would give them to her every 3 months and this would stop her pain or at least make it bearable...  My daughter is taking the depo-provera injections and has been for 1 1/2 years now... She has NOT had any blood clots, she does NOT have any pain during her period or during anytime of any month...  She has a boyfriend and sex is just fine without pain also.....

I don't care what you have to do, but you MUST get with another doctor who is familiar with the treatment of endometiosis WITHOUT the use of the Depo-Lupron...  This is a MEAN drug and the fact that it can not be taken more than 6 months actually makes it virtually useless....  These shots are also VERY expensive at $457.00 per injection...

thank you,   karen
