QuestionI have been seeing a hemotologist for over a year due to my high white blood cell count. We have yet to figure out the cause. My gynocologist told me I have PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome and apparently Endometriosis. He hasn't done the laproscopic surgery to determine endo yet but from my history is sure that I do. Could the endo and PCOS be the reason for my high white blood cell count? The count isn't extremely high but it is at the top of the normal range. I have had very rough periods, some lasting a month then starting back after just a few days of it ending. I'm 29 1/2. I know that it most likely isn't possible to have a hysterectomy yet but wouldn't it be possible to just have my ovaries removed so that I wouldn't have periods anymore? Everyone always says "you'll change your ming" about having kids but I have known for over 15 years that I will NEVER have kids. Would the surgery be a possibility if I could find a doctor who was willing to listen to me and actually hear what I'm saying?
AnswerHi Sharon
I understand your stance on the children thing...I don't have any children either and never felt like I was missing too much. May sound cold, but that was my choice, too.
I would find an endo specialist, these gynos are normally titled under (high risk/fertility) doctors, and you may already be seeing one. However, these guys know endo inside and out and would totally understand your opinion on the child bearing issue.
If you do have endo, (via a lap), it is best to have everything removed, including the ovaries. I have talked with more women who had only a partial...only to discover down the road, that endo had grossly invaded what they had left of their ovaries, and this includes cancer.
But my first choice for you, would be to find a top notch endo gyno...they don't seem to flinch at anything!
I hope you feel better and find relief. Also, try the Endometriosis Research Center website...they may be able to advise you on specialist, geographically.
Take care of yourself.
