Persistent Vaginal Pain After Gynecological Exam: Possible Causes & Concerns

Question
I'm not looking for a diagnosis but maybe just some comfort in knowing if you may have heard of this b4... For the past month I have been having pain during intercourse, but have been sexually active consistently b4 that. I went to the Gyno a few weeks ago. They looked inside, did the cultures, sent me for a pelvic ultrasound - everything was clear. Now I'm really worried because the pain is still prevalent and the only other thing I can think of is possibly the BC pill that I'm on. I am 27, been on birth control since age 17. Currently on Yasmin (6 months) but have switched around a lot in past...but that seems like such a stretch. I have already called the Dr to switch pills but still have 2 weeks left of Yasmin.
Have you ever heard of this problem? And then why would I not have felt it b4 now? Does this sound like Endo? Is there any other possibilities you may have heard of that this may be???? Please help, scared!

Answer
Hi Carol
Well, endo usually involves painful periods and discomfort during each month, but because you are on the pill, you might not be experiencing these symptoms...which is good. I, too was on the BC pill to treat my endo and it worked well for many years.
When you had your exams, did they mention anything about a tipped uterus? I had a very tipped uterus and it also caused me a great deal of pain, not only during intercourse, but throughout the month with my endo cramps, as it affected my lower back. I was extremely uncomfortable with pains in my lower back and down my legs as a result.
The only sure way to look for endo, is to have a laporosopy done. This is a minor surgery where they go in and actually look at all your organs to see if endo is present and whether it has invaded any particular area.
I would suggest that. This way you won't have to wonder why you have this discomfort. And it would probably be a good idea, as endo can creep up on you in strange areas.
I wish you luck and good health. Take care of yourself.
