QuestionLast 6 months periods have been long and full of clots and very painful. Went for a pap smear today and she said she was going to do a biopsy. She said I would feel some cramping and maybe pinching. It was probably one of the worst pains in my life. Felt like I was getting stabbed. She ended up stopping and said there was too much scar tissue(?) so she couldn't get through the cervix and we would do an ultra sound and probably a d&c.
Is this normal? New gyno and just wondering why it was so painful and if the follow up is normal. I am confused why she didn't tell me it would hurt so bad. Any advice, info or help?
AnswerHi Kris
Well, your new gyno sounds like a good doctor. She wouldn't; really know what was going on until she was able to examine you internally. It sounds like you have a more severe case of endo than you anticipated, thus the scar tissue. I have had this procedure done many times and yes, it can vary in pain...
Doing a D&C will help you greatly...sort of like cleaning out the plumbing so to speak. Your next few periods should be pretty mild afterwards. It is the scar tissue that makes your menstrual periods so painful to begin with. And, doing an ultra sound will give her a true picture of what is going on.
I'd stick with this doctor, she sounds like she is covering all of her bases.
Also, your excessive bleeding and clotting could be due to severe endo or fibroids. In the event you have fibroids, your doctor will remove and test them. Your bleeding and clotting should subside.
One way or the other, it sounds like you are receiving pretty good treatment.
I am sorry about your excessive pain but having a good gyno should help with this...a good gyno will monitor you to help alleviate future painful outcomes.
I wish you well...I am sure you will feel better once the ultrasound is done...as your doctor should have a clear picture of what your issues are...I wish you well and peace.
