Post-C-Section Period: What to Expect & When to Worry

Question
QUESTION: I was wondering how long does your first period after a c section lasts.

ANSWER: It should be similar to the periods you had pre-pregnancy, unless it has been a very long time since your birth (i.e., if you've been breastfeeding), in which case the first period may be heavier than usual.

QUESTION: i start spotting last saturday than i started regular flow. Thrusday i went to my doctor for my  six week check up and i am still bleeding. before i got pregnant my periods were a week long. is this normal

Answer
Do you mean that you are still bleeding today, or that you were still bleeding on Thursday?  Either way, it sounds like you are still within the range of normal for you.  Another possibility, since you are only six weeks postpartum, is that this could be a continuation of your lochia.  Had your bleeding stopped completely for at least a week before this current "period" started?  If not, this may not be a period, and the bleeding could continue for several more weeks and still be within normal.

If you are still bleeding later this week and are concerned, schedule a follow-up with your doctor.
