Postpartum Hemorrhage and Delayed Bleeding: A Personal Account

Question
I delivered my daughter naturally with no difficulties, however on delivering the placenta which was rather large i hemoraged quite bad and transfused with 3 units. I then passed 2 rather large clots which were the size of a plum my midwife said these were normal i then continued to have a " normal" bleed but at 8 weeks post delivery i started bleeding bright red blood i was given an ultrasound which found a 2.5mm clot which i was then put on antibiotics to rule out infection and had subsequent swabs which were clear, the blood then continued but became lighter for another 2 weeks then i had a break for about 5 days and then began bleeding again which i presumed was a period. I then had 4 week break and began bleeding again this time it was brown and more like a period then 3 days in to this "period" it began flowing red again. i then contacted my GP who sent me for a second scan which found another clot i was seen by gyn who tested my blood for clotting, infection, HB these were all clear so she gave me some tablets to take as she presumes its hormonal. My daughter is 14 weeks surely this bleeding should have stopped by now? has anyone else ever experienced anything like this? im at my wits end and becoming very depressed and extremely concerned having hemoraged im even more worried. any advice, reassurance or guidance would be much appreciated.

Answer
Presumable your clotting factors are coming out normal on the lab tests, things like platelet counts and such are normal.  Have they specifically checked for a retained piece of placenta?  If this is causing your problems with continued bleeding, you may ultimately need to have a D&C to clean things out before the bleeding will stop completely.  If you continue to get no results with your current doctor, find a new one for a second opinion.  You absolutely should not still be bleeding like this.  Good luck!
