Gallbladder Issues & Pregnancy: Risks and Concerns
QuestionI have had gallbladder attacks since late 2006. I wanted to know if my attacks could have any affects on the baby. Im 11 weeks now and have only had 1 mild attack. I'm also nervous that I will have an attack while in labor. I plan to deliver vaginaly but in the chance I have to have a c-section would there be anymore risk involved?
AnswerHonestly, as I don't know the state of your gallbladder it would be impossible for me to say. I do recommend that you talk to your doctor who has been treating you for your gallbladder issues. Your gallbladder shouldn't have much, if any, effect on your baby. In addition, the stress and impact of a c-section would be more likely to cause you gallbladder problems than a natural birth (though to my knowledge, c-sections don't tend to directly affect the gallbladder at all). Your doctor who is seeing about your gallbladder may also be able to give you helpful suggestions on how to avoid attacks. =)
Please let me know if I can help you further or with anything else.
Best wishes,
Helen =)
