Understanding Recurring Digestive Issues: Causes & Relief
QuestionHello, about three months ago I've started having these "attacks" when I would start feeling extremely tired and faint, then there is rumbling in my stomach, sometimes cramps, a lot of burping and all this usually follows by one or several bowel movements. These attacks can start any time of the day and last for hours and even days. My ultrasound, blood and stool tests were normal. I went to see gastroenterologist. I was hoping for him to have some ideas as to what might be the cause of my symptoms, but he didn't have any suggestions other than doing endoscopy. I don't really want to do this test because I am on blood-thinners. Is there any other test that can be done for these symptoms? He told me I can try Prilosec OTC, is it worse it? Is it possible for these attacks to just go away on their own? Thanks!
Answeryou didn't mention your age, but colonoscopy is probably a good idea.... the upper endoscopy is less likely to be helpful. But, this sounds more like a food intolerance.... such as the loss of ability to digest milk (prob most common) often starts after a stomach virus episode...... I would try avoiding milk products.... milk/cheese/butter for 2 weeks and see if it stops and also try to pin down a particular type of food that may have set it off.......
