Understanding Conception & Early Pregnancy: A Medical Perspective

Question
My LMP was 07/15/2007. I did have sex on 7/27/07. However i had sex on 7/22/07 w/ someone else. I miscarried the month before. The doc says i was early in the pregnancy that miscarried. I thought it was a period , but it took 2wks for me to stop bleeding (6/17 - 6/28). Could This make a difference in ovulation due to the the fact the July period did come 28 days after june period ( or what I thought was a period). The doc did a US and said baby measured 29w 6 days on 2/04/08. The he said the US are based on averages and baby is just "ahead" and the later the US the more inaacurate it can become b/c babies grow diffrently.  Which date did i conceive and or ovulated? Could it be possible that I ovulated earlier?

Answer
It is possible that you ovulated earlier, however, having a regular period on the 15th indicates to me that your body was already back on track menstruation-wise. With that said, there is often some fluxuation in ovulation dates.

However, your case is one that would be "too close to call". Any time you have sex 5 days or less apart, either one of the men could be the father because sperm can stay viable in a woman's body for 5 days. Therefore, I advise you to go ahead and schedule a DNA paternity test at your hospital or birthing center when you preregister as well as let your future pediatrician be aware that you want the procedure done.

Please let me know if I can help you further or with anything else.

Best wishes,
Helen =)
