Elective Mastectomy & Reconstruction: Considerations & Insurance

my mother died of breast cancer, i am considering having both my brests removed and using my own tissue for reconstructive surgery, what do you think? is this covered by insurance?

Dear Kelly,   My thoughts would be to think carefully about this, see doctors who are qualified in telling you your risk factors for developement of breast cancer, talk to a genetic expert etc before making this type of decision....  I doubt if insurance would cover this since this is considered ELECTIVE surgery.....
