Breast Lump: Symptoms, Causes & What to Do (For Young Adults)

Question
Hello.

Ok, i'm 16 and i know that breast cancer at a young age is rare.

But on the side of my left breast a lump has recently developed.  I know for sure that it isn't part of the normal development of a breast.

It was very itchy around the area one day and when i woke up the next, a lump had developed and is very sore.  It is like a small ball under the skin that moves around and isn't attached to anything. It does raise the skins surface, it is quite far under and it hurts to touch the area.

I was wondering if you think it is possible i have breast cancer and if it should be something i should be worried about?

Thank you.

Answer
At your age breast cancer is EXTREMELY rare! Also the fact that this lump is painful, tender & sore makes it even more improbable that this is a cancer. Symptoms and signs indicate that this probably is a sign of a fibrocystic breast condition which is very common among young women and not dangerous. But to be sure, let a dr. check you! Good luck!
