Breast Lump Found: Understanding Your Options & Concerns
QuestionI am a 28 year old female that found a lump in my breast a few months ago. I just went to the doctor and he felt the lump and has scheduled me for an ultrasound and possibly a mammogram. My paternal grandmother had breast cancer and I am concerned. I was diagnosed 10 years ago with fibrocystic disease and I regularly do self checks. Can you tell me any helpful information, I am scared out of my mind. thanks.
AnswerWhile I can not completely exclude the possibilty of a breast cancer it is far more probable that this is due to your fibrocystic condition. In this situation your ultrasound scan should be combined with mammography AND an MRI breast scan. The lump should also be investigated with a needle biopsy. That way you will soon KNOW what this is and any action necessary can be taken. Good luck!
